The gastronomy of the area, and Elciego in particular, can be defined as rich, healthy and varied. Typical dishes such as chorizo with potatoes, lamb chops cooked with vine shoots, stuffed chard leaves, red beans, oxtail, veal chop, suckling lamb, hotplate fish, Rioja-style cod, fish napes, snails, Piquillo peppers, wild asparagus, artichokes with ham and scrambled eggs, etc, are associated to the extraordinary variety of excellent wines found in Elciego. There is a wide range of home-made desserts: peaches in wine, curdled custard, rice pudding, etc. Each dish goes with a particular type of wine. The coming together of the two is wonderful on the palate.

"La Cueva" Restaurant. Calle Barrihuelo, 36. Telephone (0034) 945606440 and (0034) 626217157. Inaugurated in February 2006. The dining rooms, which seat up to 50 people, are located in former caves. The chef, Mikel Andrés Mozo, offers a wide variety of cuisine, all typical of the region.
