The climate is conditioned by the orography of the land and could be considered Continental Mediterranean with cold winters and frequent overnight frosts, along with long, dry, hot summers.
It is protected from the strong northerly winds by the Sierra de Cantabria mountain range, the foothills of which act as a filter to discharge the humid air, which arrives, dry, in Elciego. This means it is warmer and drier than the rest of the province.
The average barometric pressure is 727 mm Hg. The climate is not extreme at any time of the year. Average rainfall varies from year to year. In normal years it is around 450 l/m2.
